More often than not, the futon is a functional, low-budget addition to the family room. Because of its multi-functional role it also serves to consolidate space. Space savings like this are necessary for smaller apartments and houses that are looking to optimize their space. Although this is a modern understanding of the utility of the futon, the futon has become synonymous in some production lines with the mattress, utterly negating its history.
The metal frames are cheaper alternative for wood double futon frames, yet still maintains the classy look. A black arm rest framed futon bed looks fantastic if placed in a modern room with black as the motif. The bed doesn‘t really need to be eye catching when choosing the frame as its style can subtly blend in with the decor of your room. In the recent times, double is the most preferred size. The futon mattress usually comes in 54" x 75". This can already seat 2 or 3 individuals, and can accommodate 2 people lying down. Meanwhile, the queen futon bed comes with a fairly larger measure of 60" x 80". Sure, the additional 5 inches won‘t make that much difference in terms of seating and sleeping space, but it tends to be out of place once folded as the back tends to be higher. Also, it is bigger and heavier, which is why people tend to like double futon more.
